Sharing grades between Lustre and any other system

ChrisRash Feb 29, 2016

  1. Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience sharing grades (either through CDL or another method) with other colorists using either Lustre or some other application (Scratch, Baselight, etc.)?

Is there an easy method of exporting a CDL? The user guide makes it sound like CDL information has to be applied to each shot.

    Any info would be helpful.

    Thanks!

Pre-grading with CDLs happens quite a bit, especially for shots being sent out of house for vfx or stereo conversions. You can find the key commands for using Lustre's CDL tools here:

Once you've pre-graded your timeline (reel, episode, etc), go to Edit > Browse, enable CDL, then Export EDL. Another good option when exporting is to "Enable Long Reel Names", otherwise reel names in your EDLs are truncated to eight characters to conform to CMX3600. Note, that Lustre always displays reel names as eight characters in the user interface (e.g, conform window) regardless if they are long or not. Also, if your reel names coming in from editorial have already been truncated, then the Long Reel Names option doesn't apply.

If you need to export certain shots, just flag or group them first, collapse them down (Press F), grade with CDLs, then export your EDL, and it will include only your selected shots.
