Understanding HDR gamma

Erik Wittbusch Nov 15, 2016

  1. No, I actually experimented with the youtube tool as well but didn't understand too much of it. I will wait for the GUI version :) Plus, Im not sure if those metadata will trigger hdr on an LG as they are meant to flag HDR for youtube uploads, not sure if that's the same.
The great thing about the Panasonic DXW904 is that you can select everything manually, so tere no need for metadata insertion to see hdr, just a remote and some patience.

    Which Handbrake version you used?
  2. There's a handmade 10bit only version somewhere. I can upload it for you end of next week.

My problem: I have a client who has LG, Pana and Samsung TVs and wants my Clips to run correctly on all of them automatically...

Did it work out for you?
Is it already mapped into REC.2020?
Do you also use ACEScc with the ST.2084 ODT?

Which RRT/ACES version are you using?
  3. Im using rcm or just a lut at the end. I can use 2020 or 709, tv has both options. But I haven't exported anything yet. Just playing with the tools.
  4. Erik, have a read here:

Scroll down to the part where they use Hybrid (basically a Handbrake equivalent) to encode H265 incl. adding HDR metadata (section "Distributing HDR").
I have yet to read through all of the blog, but there's some interesting findings in it.
    Hope this helps.

  5. Thanks!

I'll see and report when I'm in my studio end of next week.

Please apologize for trying to HDR without proper equipment.

  6. Wow, that's a very useful read.

The actual article Mazze talks about is this one: http://www.mysterybox.us/blog/2016/10/27/hdr-video-part-5-grading-mastering-and-delivering-hdr

    Thanks Mazze
  7. Great information.

Now I just want my HDR capable display even more!
