DaVinci Resolve 21.3 - How to relink Deliver → Individual Clips transcodes back to RED Komodo R3D without using XML?

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a feature film in DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.3.

My workflow was:

  • Original footage: RED Komodo 6K (.R3D)
  • Created 1080p MOV transcodes using Deliver → Individual Clips (not Generate Proxy Media).
  • The transcodes retained the same filename, timecode, reel name, source name, and clip duration as the original R3D files.
  • I edited the entire film in Resolve using these 1080p MOV files.
Now I'm ready for Color Grading and want to reconnect the timeline to the original R3D footage.

Current situation:

  • I disconnected the drive containing the 1080p MOV files.
  • Connected the drive containing the original R3D files.
  • Tried Relink Selected Clips and Change Source Folder, but all clips remain Media Offline.
  • If I export an FCP XML from the edit project and import it into a new project with the R3D files, everything reconnects correctly.
My question is:

Is there a way to relink or reconform the existing project directly to the original R3D files without using XML?

If not, is this expected behavior because the 1080p files were created using Deliver → Individual Clips rather than Resolve Proxy Media?

Any suggestions or recommended workflows would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Reel name, depending on how they were set up (filename vs embedded), could either include the _001 suffix or not.

Worth opening the XML in your preferred text editor and take a snoop.

It could be as easy as removing or adding _001 “here and there”.

Thank you so much! That solved the problem perfectly.

You should use the conform workflow instead of relink. Dupe your timeline, select all your clips (disable conform lock from right click menu), then in the media pool - right click on timeline reconform from bins to the red raw.
